Tuesday, December 2 to Saturday, December 6, Theatre Royal Bath.

NORTHERN Ballet Theatre (NBT) makes a welcome return to Bath with its highly acclaimed production of The Nutcracker.

Set in Jane Austen’s Regency England in this production, The Nutcracker tells the story of Clara and her magical wooden Nutcracker doll, a present from her uncle, Herr Drosselmeyer.

Snow is falling as Clara and her family prepare for their Christmas party, a sumptuous ball.

Her uncle arrives with tales of his exotic travels and everyone is excited by his gifts, but none is more loved than the strange wooden Nutcracker doll Clara holds tightly in her arms.

As the clock strikes midnight, Clara finds herself in a dream land where she must fight a battle with the wicked Mouse King and her Nutcracker proves to be no ordinary toy.

A great battle against the Mice and an enchanting journey across the world offer a colourful and spellbinding treat for the whole family.

David Nixon’s utterly traditional production of The Nutcracker first charmed audiences and critics alike when it premiered in 2007.

Colourful, sparkly and enchanting, with a blizzard of a snowstorm, spectacular costumes and Tchaikovsky’s famous score performed live by the NBT Orchestra, this is a festive treat guaranteed to leave a warm glow this December. One of the world’s favourite ballets, The Nutcracker has delighted audiences young and old for over 100 years.

The perfect introduction to classical ballet, The Nutcracker has something for everyone, from the land of snow, to the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

In 1891 Marius Petipa commissioned Tchaikovsky to write the music for a ballet based on Hoffmann’s tale, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The first performance of The Nutcracker ballet took place at the Mariinsky Theatre, Russia.
