A touch of Hollywood glamour arrived in Biddestone this week, with residents finding their village taken over for a US film.

The Cotswolds location is being used for The Christmas Candle, with Four Weddings and a Funeral star John Hannah and former Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy. The film will also mark the acting debut of Susan Boyle.

The village green was given a Victorian makeover, with false shop fronts and fake snow, and the outside of the White Horse pub was also used.

Its new landlady, Stella Beckenham, said: “We only opened on Saturday, but they’ve already been in to say thanks and we had our photo taken with Sylvester McCoy. They’ve done really well to make the village look like it would have done back then.”

Preparations for the shoot began last week, with the arrival of a large floodlight for night filming, and were expected to end by today.

Carolyn Madley’s home, near the green, was used, and she said: “Our daughter, Flora, has been an extra. Our drawing room was set up with a beautiful Christmas tree with real candles.”

The film is due for release at the end of this year. Executive producer Brian Lockhart, from Colorado, said: “We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting than this village.”
