Dorothy House Hospice is using National Volunteer Week to say a big thank you the hundreds of volunteers that tirelessly serve the hospice on a daily basis.
National Volunteer Week kicks off on Saturday and finishes next Friday, with Dorothy House taking the opportunity to highlight the dedicated work of its 939 volunteers.
Since the early days, the Dorothy House Hospice has relied on volunteers to fulfil a number of roles both within the hospice itself and in their shops.
Volunteers are involved in almost all areas of the organisation, from directly working with patients in both the In-Patient and Day patient units to administration, transport and a whole host of other roles.
Chris Smith, who has been volunteering at Dorothy house for 15 years, said: “I really enjoy coming in each week, I am a fundraising volunteer and help with the administration work.
“I have made some great friends over the years and it certainly keeps me out of mischief.”
The work of volunteers allows Dorothy House to deliver additional services worth a staggering £1.1 million pounds caring for patients and their families.
