Volunteers are being encouraged to join in the Bradford on Avon River Clean-Up on Saturday.

They can help clear the river banks between Avoncliff and Greenland during the clean-up from 9am to noon and 2pm to 5pm.

There will be a supply of black plastic rubbish bags on the McKeever footbridge and full bags will need to be left on a special site immediately downstream of Barton Bridge.

Members from the rowing club have offered to clear the river downstream from Barton Bridge to Avoncliff and local river enthusiast AJ Donner has offered two rowing boats for clearing the river upstream from Barton Bridge to Greenland Weir.

Members of the angling community have agreed to concentrate on the banks downstream of Barton Bridge.

Although objects picked out of the river or taken from its banks are likely to be safe to touch, volunteers are advised to bring gloves and children should be supervised.

Mr Donner, a builder from Bradford, will clear the bags of rubbish in the afternoon to take them to the tip.
