A NEW memory café is set to open in Bradford on Avon next week to relieve the worries of dementia patients and their carers.

The project, which is being run by the Bradford on Avon and Melksham Health Partnership, will provide an information service for people with memory problems to help aid them in their day-to-day lives.

Amanda Brookes, business manager at Bradford on Avon health centre said it was important to bring the vital service to the town.

She added: “The reason we are doing it is because we have over 200 patients registered with dementia and there is no place for them to go with their carers to seek information about memory problems.

“We want it to be a fun place to come for information and to network with people in a similar position.”

The health centre, who are funding the project and supplying dementia specialist staff, have said that if the idea proves popular in the town, then considerations can be made about putting it on more frequently for patients.

The free of charge service is only available to patients registered in the Bradford on Avon and Melksham Health Partnership.

The first session will be held on Thursday in the Dog & Fox, Ashley Road and will continue on the first Thursday of every month.
