TALENTED Trowbridge artist Lucja Korczak is looking forward to seeing her work form part of a new exhibition at Black Swan Arts Centre in Frome, after her sculpture won the best U13 category.

The 12-year-old, who lives in Trowbridge with her mum Aga Oganowska, is a keen artist and has entered her work into a number of competitions, but this is the first time she has scooped first place.

Her sculpture design, called The Shattered Lily, impressed the judges and will be among 20 other designs that will have a special exhibition space in the Step in Stone exhibition at Black Swan Arts Centre.

The Step in Stone exhibition is a multi-disciplinary art project featuring work by 14 leading artists, exploring the wild landscapes of working and abandoned quarries, and will be displayed at the Frome gallery in October.

Lucja’s mum Miss Oganowska said: “She has entered a number of art competitions, with the first one about two years ago. She had always enjoyed art and it is her favourite subject at school.

“It is the first time she has won a competition and she is very excited about having her work displayed in a gallery. She is inviting all her teachers to go to the exhibition and I am very proud and supportive of her.”

As well as having her work featured in the exhibition, Lucja received a free Step in Stone workshop. The exhibition at the Frome gallery, October 3-17 is part of Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2015.
