LESS than a week remains before the Bradfordians perform Jane Austen's famous period drama Emma at the Tithe Barn from June 15-18.
THE multi-award-winning amateur dramatics group are back with a 30-strong cast for the play that explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England.
Director Cally Smart said: "We are very lucky to have a great, enthusiastic cast with acting, dancing and music - I am really happy with the preparations, I could not be happier.
"Dances from 1814 (the year the book was published) have been unearthed and will be performed in public for the first time which is very exciting.
"You do not often see Jane Austen plays outdoors and with us being so close to Bath it is a fitting production that lends itself very well to its venue."
After performing Alan Bennett’s Lady in the Van and then more recently Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes this year and last, chairman Phil Courage’s performers are all set for their take on the classical novel.
Mr Courage said: "It should be a lovely evening out to see a beautiful costume Georgian production in our fabulous Tithe Barn - you cannot get a better venue than that. We encourage people to bring a picnic beforehand for a wonderful evening out."
