A WESTBURY man says he is living in fear after two men are alleged to have forced their way into his home, threatening him and his wife with a hammer.

The retired engineer, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the couple have been left shaken by their ordeal on October 16, when two men called at the door of their home in Fell Road just before 9pm.

The 66-year-old resident said: “We were just sat watching TV when I went to get a beer out the fridge and that is when I heard a tap, tap, tap at the door.

“They asked for a man and I said the person they were looking for didn’t live there. I tried to get the chain on the door but they pushed it in and the glass smashed and fell on me.

“I ran to the kitchen and got that door closed and my wife rang 999.”

One of the duo is believed to have been carrying a hammer which he threatened the man’s 57-year-old wife with.

The resident, who has lived at the address for 10 years, added: “When one of them went for my missus I said if they want money then here is my wallet.

“I thought they were going to kill her. I’ve never been so scared in my life.”

The wallet contained a large quantity of cash, bank cards and a bus pass and it is alleged that similar incidents, where men ask to speak to someone in the home, has happened at the house before.

The first man is described as white, approximately 5ft 4in tall of skinny build, aged between 28 and 30. He was wearing a light grey hooded top and jogging bottoms.

The second man is described as white, 5ft 4in and of stocky build. He is believed to be in his early 30s and had stubble and short black hair. He was wearing a grey hooded top.

The couple have CCTV and hope it helps police identify the offenders. They are also offering a reward if the men responsible are convicted.

PC Rob Goacher said: “This was a very distressing incident for the couple, who have understandably been left shaken and upset.

“Officers are carrying out an extremely robust investigation into this incident, and have been carrying out house to house enquiries in the area.”

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
