A SCHOOL in Hilperton was transformed into a mini festival at the weekend with over 1,000 people enjoying a wide range of fun activities and musical performances.

With the help of a £9,800 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, The Mead in Hackett Place welcomed a range of talented live performers including local folk band band Catbrain Hill and the Beatbox Collective, whose jaw-dropping vocal talents stunned the big crowd.

There was also an opportunity to walk through the eye-opening Colourscape sculpture, pop balloons filled with paint to make creative designs, learn circus skills, take part in drumming workshops and lots more.

Chair of governors and event organiser Mel Jacob said: “It was absolutely brilliant, such a fabulous day. There was a brilliant atmosphere and something going on in virtually every room in the school.

“Before an event like this you always worry about the weather and if anyone will turn up, but thankfully the rain held off and people came in their droves.

“At last year’s community event it was packed outside but this year it was packed inside and outside, which is just what we wanted.

“Every year the idea behind this event is to bring the community together and we’re so glad it achieved that again. Thanks to everyone who helped out to make it such a brilliant day."

The school hall became a theatre for the day where pupils from seven local schools presented films they have been working on over the past term exploring the idea of ‘one moment in time’.

The school threw its first community fun day to celebrate five years since forming and Saturday’s event was its eleventh annual event.

Next year’s event will be based on the theme of science and technology and planning will soon begin to make it is another success.
