A GIRL Guide leader is holding an auction with a number of temping goodies on offer to fund her volunteering trip to Zambia.

Chloe Decarteret, a nurse at The Royal United Hospital in Bath, has been selected to go volunteering with Guiding Overseas Linked with Development (GOLD) this August to Zambia on a community development project as part of a team of six Girlguiding members.

The 24-year-old from Trowbridge has to raise a further £500 to reach her target of £2,450 and is hoping an auction at St Johns Church Hall in Upper Studley, starting at 7.30pm on Friday evening (June 9), will achieve it.

She said: “As part of a sustainable development programme in Zambia, I will be travelling to several provinces where Girlguiding provides young women a safe space to express themselves.

“While in Zambia I will be working with the community and Girlguiding groups to train the leaders in leadership, team work, confidence and recruitment and retention.

“We even have the opportunity to take the Guides camping and teach them first aid skills and camping skills.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I can't wait to get out there."

The auction prizes include four tickets to Center Parcs, a night stay at a cottage in Colerne, tickets to see Bristol City FC, tickets to the Roman Bath in Bath and lots more.

The £2,450 suggested by GOLD will cover costs of the trip itself, planning meetings, equipment, vaccines and more.
