A TROWBRIDGE man was arrested on Saturday morning after apparently stabbing a victim who is now fighting for his life.

The incident took place in Charlotte Square, just off Timbrell Street, at around 1am where a 27-year-old Trowbridge man sustained a puncture wound to his chest.

Not long after a 36-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the stabbing at 3am.

He is now in custody in Melksham.

Forensic teams and detectives have swept the area, which has been closed off to the public since the early hours of this morning.

The victim was rushed to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, earlier today - he is believed to be in a serious condition.

This comes just three months after a man died in the same street.

Detective Constable Keith Harford, of Central CID, said: “Following the call into our control room reporting this incident, officers carried out some proactive enquiries and were able to locate and arrest a man in relation to the incident within an hour. He remains in custody for questioning.

“The victim has sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated in hospital.
