THE roadworks that could have caused ‘chaos’ on the Hilperton Primary school run will now take place on the weekend, instead of from Wednesday to Friday.
Eurovia had planned to do the resurfacing works along Newleaze, from its junction with Hill Street for a distance of 500m, but Wiltshire Council decided to switch it to the weekend, in case it caused disruption for the school.
The roadworks should be completed before the school reopens on Monday.
Hilperton councillor Ernie Clark said: “It is good that the highways team realised that it could cause quite a bit of chaos for the school.
“I am pleased that they have listened to local concerns but I think this decision should have been made earlier.
“But at least they reacted in a positive way that won’t cause a major disruption during the school runs.”
