ART lovers from in and around Trowbridge are in for a treat, both in the short-term and long-term, after a new gallery opened up and the Cloth Road Arts Trail got underway.

Alex Compton, Jennifer Hamblin and her mum, Marleen, opened the Court Street Gallery on Friday and artists across West Wiltshire starting displaying their work in galleries, workshops and studios on Saturday, for the nine day trail.

The trio, who specialise in fused glass, beaded jewellery and screen printing, will be hiring out the space to visiting artists and designers who will be running courses and classes throughout the year

They also have a gallery space, a shop area for artists to sell work and a complete programme of classes available, including jewellery, painting, drawing, glass, print, candle making, floristry and aroma therapy, among others.

“This is such an exciting time for us. Our launch on Saturday at the town hall as part of the Cloth Road Arts Trail could not really have gone any better, it was a wonderful start,” said Jennifer.

“This sort of happened by accident. A mutual friend of mine and Alex’s introduced us and after quite a long time of knowing each other, Katie Makin moved out of The Craft Space and we moved in.

“My mum is retired and she is joining us on this great adventure too.

“We have a full programme of booked up classes right the way through to September.

“Hopefully this can bring about positive change in Trowbridge because there is a lot of hidden talent that is beavering away.”

The trail, which runs until Sunday, celebrates the work of talented local artists and craftspeople who will showcase their paintings, ceramics, prints, glass and much more.
