BURBAGE & Easton Royal skipper David Cope says batsman Henry Cooper put in a match-winning display as they picked up a 26-run win over Lechlade.

Burbage won the toss and elected to bat, which proved to be an inspired decision as they knocked up a total 237-5.

Cooper was the star of the show this weekend as he put together a huge total of 119, which Cope described as a ‘pleasure to watch’.

“That was a match-winning performance really, which was supported by a couple of the other lads who chipped in,” he said.

“The wicket certainly got easier. Once you got in it helped to hang around a bit but that 119 was so valuable, it gave us a decent score to defend.

“237 was the highest score we have had at our ground this year so. Lechlade have got a lot of good players so the game was far from done and dusted.

“We got a couple of early wickets early which swayed it our way, then they had a bit of a partnership which swung it their way.

“That is Henry’s first really big score.

"He has had a couple of good starts but this was the first time he pushed on.

“He seemed to be having fun at the end of it, he hit a lot of sixes and it was a pleasure to watch to be fair.”

Cope will now turn this attention to the coming weekend, where they tackle Rockhampton away from home.

Next week’s opponents could prove to be another tough test as they have been a little inconsistent since the start of the season.

“Rockhampton are a tricky side, when we have played them we have always had really good games,” he added.

“I don’t think we have ever beaten them but I would like to right that this week.

“They’re a good side with some good players.

"Their form in the league is not reflective of the quality of their team, which is a bit like Lechlade.

“I don’t think Lechlade will ultimately be at the bottom of the table at the end of the season, not with the quality they have in their side.

“Rockhampton will be another challenging side.

“We picked up an injury at the weekend, Tom Wallbridge has injured his calf so he won’t play on Saturday but we have plenty of depth to cover that.”

Elsewhere, Corsham sneaked a two-wicket win over Biddestone.

Biddestone won the toss, chose to bat and Tyrone Isitt picked up a century, scoring 102 off of 104 balls.

Opener Dwayne Perry also put up a decent knock, he registered 65 as the hosts scored 231.

With the bat, Corsham were no slouches, Adam Mitchell got 70 in addition to 55 from Tom Smith.

However, they were unable to catch their hosts, as they finished 235-8.

Corsham, who have now won three games on the bounce, will make a trip to Dumbleton at the weekend.

Biddestone, who now have two defeats in five, will hope they can return to winning ways when they welcome Westbury on Saturday.
