THE dream of playing in the 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie next month remained alive for four Wiltshire golfers after today’s regional qualifying rounds around the country.

Wiltshire champion Tom Law (Broome Manor) booked his place in final qualifying next month after carding a four under par 68 at the Minchinhampton club in Gloucestershire.

Joining him was Wrag Barn-based professional Matt Mumford on the same mark, while Chippenham’s Louis Boston and Ben Amor, of Marlborough, were two shots back but also safely through inside the top 14 qualifiers.

Boston’s clubmate Matt Law missed out by a shot after a one under 71, as did Jack Charman, of North Wilts, while Mark Sandry, of the Swindon Premier Golf Academy, Chris Moon, from Corsham’s Tony Valentine Golf Centre, Wrag Barn’s Josh Loughrey and Chippenham Golf Centre’s Ross McCance signed for level-par 72s.

Tony Valentine Golf Centre’s Nick Brennan and Barry Forster were a further shot back and on two over were Wrag Barn amateur Max Drayton, one ahead of Cumberwell Park amateur Jamie Li, Wrag Barn’s Jack Seaman and High Post’s Mark Searle.

Amateurs Jamie Cooper (Bowood) and Broome Manor’s Tom Ruddle ended on four over, with Ben Loughrey on six over.
