STAFF at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon have officially opened a new Breathing Space for pupils who need the opportunity for calm reflection, mentoring and de-stressing.

Nearly 20 people from the local community, staff and students attended Tuesday’s ceremony.

Jenny Howard, trustee and membership secretary of the Friends of Bradford on Avon Community Healthcare Trust, officially opened the new facility, which was dedicated by Reverend Ann Keating.

Headteacher Fergus Stewart said: “This initiative serves to further the school’s commitment to the emotional, mental and spiritual health and well-being of its students.

“It has been supported by the local community through generous donations, which have allowed for the refurbishment of the space and furniture and its transformation into a quiet oasis of calm.”

Following the opening, guests enjoyed live music, courtesy of the students, drinks and canapés.
