KINGDOWN’S first ever world fair transported year seven pupils around the globe as they learned about different cultures.

The children travelled to and from each country by visiting various stalls with their specially designed passports.

At each stall the pupils learned about the country’s food, festivals, faith and culture, from the Mexican celebration day of the dead, to the Carnival of Venice.

The students got the chance to sample worldwide food from bratwurst to barfi, mukhwas to croissants, olives to Arabic tea, Turkish Delight to Japanese butter cookies.

Children also interviewed a panel of representatives from both faith and non-faith communities, to find out about what people believe, as well as learning about the work of local charities, and global organisations like Amnesty International.

David Richardson, assistant headteacher said: “Our first World Fair was a flying success, and we’re already looking forward to jetting off next year!

“Many thanks to all students who took part, and a special thanks to equalities team for the time, hard work and imagination that went into planning this fantastic event.”
