A WESTBURY lady has bitten the bullet and had her hair cut off and donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young children who have lost their hair through illness.

Vanessa Jenkins, 36, of Bell Orchard, had around 12 inches cut off her long hair on Tuesday morning at Hair Masters salon in George Street in Warminster.

She first had the idea to donate her hair after looking on social media where she came across the Little Princess Trust.

Miss Jenkins said: “I was thinking about getting my hair cut and I was wondering if there was any way I could donate my hair to someone.

“I looked on Instagram and found the Little Princess Trust and found that they make wigs for children who have unfortunately fallen ill.

“I wanted to donate my hair because I want to be able to shed a little light on the darkness for young girls who have lost their hair.

“I hope it will help them to get their confidence back. Hair is such an important thing to young girls and boys and I feel great to be able to donate my hair.

“I have so much hair and I don’t need all of it, they need it a lot more than me.

“I didn’t feel very nervous before getting my hair cut as it was so long and took a lot of work to look after, my new shorter style will be much easier.”

As well as donating 12 inches of her hair, Miss Jenkins has also been collecting donations for the Little Princess Trust, and has so far collected around £400 through donations from loved ones, customers at the hairdressers and customers at the Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity shop where her mum volunteers.

She added: “I would like to thank my property managers, Wendy and Jay, who were an incredible help towards getting the ball rolling for donations.

“Also thank you to all the customers of the Air Ambulance charity shop in Westbury for donating towards the cause.”

Miss Jenkins’ mum, Pat Jenkins said: “We are very proud of her and think this a great thing for her to do.

“She was completely set on the idea of donating her hair and we fully supported her.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated towards the Little Princess Trust, we are so pleased with the amount we have raised.”
