THE Mighty Titans from Melksham are celebrating after ending a 1,000-mile run at John O’Groats in Scotland.

The 15 runners from the New Era Fitness Centre at Bowerhill finished their run from Land's End to John O'Groats early this morning (Fri, Aug 3).

And they arrived only 15 minutes later than planned – a fantastic achievement considering the distance and logistics involved.

Organiser and fitness centre owner, D J Hussey, said: “We finished in a time of six days and 15 minutes.

“We are over the moon with as this is only 15 minutes behind our scheduled time to complete the challenge.

“Everyone has done amazing, everyone is still in one piece and we all made it with smiles on our faces and pride in our hearts.”

The team ran to raise more than £10,000 for Wiltshire MIND, the Melksham-based mental health charity.

So far, they have managed £11,090 with more coming in every day via their fundraising appeal.

The Mighty Titans aimed to cover the distance in just seven days, having starting last Saturday at Land's End in Cornwall.

Only one of the original 16-strong team, Judith Greenman, was forced to drop out of the challenge for personal reasons.

The fundraising appeal was inspired by D J Hussey's father, Peter, who died after suffering from depression.
