A WILTSHIRE father has spoken about why he has organised a charity lunch in Shaw this month following the death of his wife four years ago.

Christopher Scott-Moody, 51, decided to support the We Hear You counselling service for Wiltshire after his wife, Sarah, died aged 46 in 2014. Her death left him to bring up their two children, Lucy, 16, and Charlie, 12.

The events manager, who lives at Neston, said: “I contacted them after hearing a radio broadcast in October 2017, when they were a chosen charity for Global Radio’s ‘Make Some Noise’ campaign.

“As a single father of two, following the death of my wife from cancer, I was touched by the stories of young people helped by WHY’s counselling service and contacted the charity to offer my support.”

Since then, WHY has provided support for Mr Scott-Moody’s children, particularly Charlie, who has benefited from attending counselling sessions since February.

We Hear You, which is based in Frome, provides free professional counselling for anyone affected by cancer or other life threatening condition across Wiltshire, Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset.

The charity lunch is being held on Saturday, August 18 at Lowden Garden Centre in Bath Road, Shaw, from 12.15pm. It will feature live classical music, hosted by Classic FM’s Anne-Marie Minhall, who is also giving a talk and offering a tour of the Classic FM studio and tea and cake as a prize in the event’s charity auction.

Guests will be greeted with a drinks reception and music by Welsh string quartet Cambria, followed by a two-course buffet lunch and the talk. Artwork will be on sale from The WHY Gallery, an art gallery and exhibition space showcasing the work of local artists and makers, with all proceeds from commission going to the charity.

WHY’s Fundraising and Communications Manager Gemma Wilkes Gemma said: “We were delighted to hear from Christopher and we’re so grateful to him for organising this fantastic event for us.

“Our service is available to anyone who needs it in Wiltshire and we offer counselling in Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge and Warminster, but it’s great to be able to spread the word about WHY in a part of the county where we’re less well known.”

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to him for choosing to support We Hear You, to Anne-Marie Minhall for hosting and Lowden Garden Centre for donating the venue.”

Tickets for the luncheon cost £25, including a drinks reception and buffet lunch and can be purchased from the garden centre tills, by telephone to 01225 702345 or email to info@lowdengardencentre.com
