THREE ardent Melksham Town FC supporters have braved a triple head shave for charity at the InfiLED Stadium.

Father and son Jason and Ciaran Hanks were joined by Jackie Fordham for the head shave on Saturday (Aug 11).

The trio all took the plunge after 12-year-old Ciaran vowed to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

He has already raised £1,012 this year, including Gift Aid and £335 from a bucket collection on Saturday.

Over the past two years, the Melksham teenager has raised more than £1,200 from marathon swimming challenges but wanted to try something else this year.

Ciaran said: “I just fancied doing something different this year. I wanted to make a difference to poorly kids about my age, so I chose the Teenage Cancer Trust.

“Melksham Town FC supported me in the final lengths of my Loch Ness swimming challenge at the Blue Pool last December.

“When dad mentioned that Melksham Town FC’s defender Mark Cooper is a barber, I asked him if he would do my shave for me.”

Jason, 48, a self-employed bookkeeper, said: “It feels very strange having no hair but my customers have been very generous in their support.

“Ciaran has done a fantastic job over the past two years to raise over £700 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and £525 for Multiple Sclerosis.”

In the process, Ciaran was crowned a joint winner of the MS Society’s 2018 Young Fundraiser award.

Mr Hanks added: “As he’s chosen something different this year, I offered to support him by agreeing to have my head shaved if he raised £500, in order to motivate him to raise more.”

Jackie, 49, of Cranesbill Road, knows the pair through football, and agreed to help raise funds by having her head shaved too.
