A TROWBRIDGE family has laid claim to having the tallest sunflower in town.
Stewart Benford, of Thirsk Drive, and his sons Joshua, eight, and Dominic, four, planted the sunflower seed in their garden on May 23 and have been tending to it every day since.
With a healthy amount of sun and watering, now it has reached the 15ft mark and the family hope it will grow even taller.
“I am pretty proud of how tall it is. I hope it will keep growing,” said Joshua.
Mr Benford said they had used wooden slats and metal pieces to keep it in place by their garden fence.
“I think we have the tallest sunflower in Trowbridge. It was growing two inches every day - the biggest in the UK is 26ft,” he said.
“We get a good amount of sunlight from midday onwards so it could keep growing. The sunflower head should come out soon. The boys have been really good at looking after it and helping it grow.”
