MORE than 1,000 people revelled in all the delightful activities on offer at the annual Southwick Show on Monday.

People poured into the village hall and out into the playing field for a day of live music, games, ferret racing, china smashing, a fun dog show, pony rides, dancing, car boot sales, flower, vegetable and cake shows.

Fraser Warren, 10, from Holt, said: “I have had a great time. My favourite bit was the ferret racing.”

Esme Ellingworth, six, of Westbury, said: “The trampoline was so much fun. I have had a really good day.”

The money raised from the event will go to Wiltshire Air Ambulance and local causes.

President of the Southwick Women’s Institute, Lynda Ritchens, said: “We have a fantastic group of ladies who made all these cakes to give to all these people. Everyone has been really appreciative.”

Chairman of the Southwick Show committee, Chris Rawlings, said: “It has been an absolutely brilliant day. There has been a wonderful atmosphere and community spirit.”

Every year, Trowbridge councillor Geoff Whiffen gets spare pieces of crockery from Cooper and Tanner Antiques to use for his china smashing stall.

“People just love smashing this stuff. There must have been a couple of thousand pieces here,” he said.
