A MELKSHAM man who carried out a serious assault in Trowbridge Town Park has been remanded in custody.

Stephen Alford, of Berryfield Park, Melksham, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

And the 39-year-old also admitted possessing a knife, in the park on Wednesday, May 9.

Robin Shellard, defending, said: “Mr Alford has long-standing psychiatric problems which have been treated within the community but weren’t successful at the time, hence his current predicament.

“Those looking after him at Bullingdon Prison are to transfer him to hospital to see if it is a possible disposal.”

Disposal is how the case will be dealt with.

Judge Jason Taylor QC adjourned the case to Friday, September 28.

Alford has been remanded in custody until then.
