CHAMPION grower Neville Day has won top honours at the Bradford on Avon Flower & Produce show for the ninth year in succession.

Neville, 62, from Westwood, took the Avonfield Cup for the fruit and vegetable section, and the Bradford on Avon Flower Show Cup for the Potato Challenge.

He scored 18 first places, two second places and three third places in the annual show.

But Neville revealed it was no thanks to his wife, Julie, who cooked his best potatoes just before the show.

“I was forced to enter my second-best potatoes because Julie cooked my best ones.

“I said to her, don’t touch those, but she picked up the wrong bag.”

Anna Tanfield won the Jam Cup for the best jam or jelly; Tina Vivian the floral art; Rachel Sheppard the flower classes; and Deborah Cheshire won the Tillions Trophy - a wooden spoon - for the cooking section.

Colin Dagger took the Ruby Red Cup for the most points scored in the home-brewing classes.

Harriet Fielding of Whiteheads Lane, Bradford on Avon, won a first in the class for lemon curd after seven years of trying.

The Bradford on Avon Flower & Produce Show took place on Sunday (Sept 2) at St Margaret’s Hall from 2pm to 4pm.

Admission was free and the annual event was supported by Bradford on Avon Town Council.

Tea and cakes were on sale, with all proceeds going to the Save the Children charity.
