CALNE Town co-manager Ben Redford insisted his side "must learn'' after they were knocked out of the FA Vase, losing 5-4 to Fawley AFC, writes SAM HILL.

The Lilywhites failed to hold on to their 4-2 lead at home against the Hampshire side, conceding three goals in the last 10 minutes.

“I was absolutely gutted that we didn’t win, especially after being 4-2 up with 10 minutes to go,” Redford said.

“The lads were all devastated as we played some amazing football and thoroughly deserved to have the lead we did.”

Town took the advantage early on when captain Matt Hudson produced a wonder strike to beat Craig Shellard in the Fawley net, but the visitors responded with a penalty.

“I think the ref did okay, he probably made the right call,” admitted Redford.

“It’s another thing we’ve got to cut out, it cost us a lot last season (giving penalties away), so it’s something we need to stop.”

“We left some players out this week as we rotated a little, and maybe we got a little complacent with the subs.

“Even their manager said we were the much better side, which probably makes it harder to take.

“If there was one positive to take from the defeat it is that we can now focus all our efforts on the league.

“We have to learn from this result and make sure it never happens again.”

Corsham Town made progress courtesy of a narrow 1-0 victory over Laverstock & Ford at the Southbank.

Dan King and Mark Dolman both stepped off the bench and combined for Dolman to head the winner in the second half.

Devizes Town bowed out of the Vase as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Warminster Town, with both goals coming late on.

Substitute Jake Wright and George Butler scored for the winners.

On Sunday, Chippenham Park were knocked out 4-0 by Toolstation League Premier Division side Bitton.
