MORE than 35 people are taking part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for and awareness of breast cancer.

The Pink Ribbon Walk for Breast Cancer has been organised by Tracie Winslow on Sunday, September 16.

It will start at 1pm from the green opposite the Tesco Express store at Bowerhill and head along the canal towpath.

Tracie, 43, of Wellesley Close, Bowerhill, said: “One of my family was diagnosed with breast cancer this year and I felt I wanted to raise awareness and vital funds.

“It was originally just for a few of us to take part in but has now grown to over 30 people. I’m hoping to raise £1,000.”

She will be joined by husband, Paul, son Tyler, 19, and the family’s chocolate labradoodle, Charlie Brown.

The group will walk six miles to The Black Horse in Devizes. There will be stops along the way.

En route, they will stop at The Barge, the Three Magpies and Caen Hill cafe so people can have a break or stop and be collected safely.

Tracie said: “The walk is for all ages, male and female and all abilities.

“There will be plenty of us there to help anyone who needs it. Everyone taking part will be wearing a pink t-shirt and collecting sponsorship.”

The raffle will be held at The Black Horse after 4pm when the group finishes the walk and an auction will be held online.

Tracie said: “Search for Pink Ribbon Walk for Breast Cancer on Facebook, where an event has been set up.

“We have some wonderful prizes already, kindly donated by Meads of Melksham, Beechfield, Water Meadow, Neston, Lowden, Christie Miller, Griffs Barbershop and many more.

“If you can’t manage the walk, but would like to support us, we’d love to see you on the day!

“We’re hoping the weather will be kind, we’re going to have a fantastic afternoon.”
