MORE than 30 golfers swung, chipped and putted with all their might during a 24-hour golf marathon at the weekend.

Forty golfers from Whitley Golf Club took part in the Ryder Cup-style event on Saturday and Sunday to raise £3,500 for PTSD UK, the post-traumatic stress disorder charity.

Spokesman Steve Hare said: “Many of the club members have experience of PTSD.

“The competition went down to the last hole and Team Law beat Team Firmin by 16-15, with Jamie Holland holing the last putt to beat Neil Betteridge.”

The golfers teed off at 8am on Saturday and putted the last hole 24 hours later.

They each played in singles, foursomes and four-ball competitions similar to the Ryder Cup team professionals.

Wives and partners helped support the marathon event by staging a raffle in the clubhouse.

They also provided a constant stream of hot drinks and snacks to keep the golfers going through the night.
