THE wonderful world of science and technology was embraced by eager children at a Trowbridge school’s Mission: Explore and Discover spectacular.

The Mead Primary School treated children and their families to an inflatable planetarium, robot programming, virtual reality, science experiments, making slime and potions, finger printing with the police and much more.

School business manager Mel Jacob said Saturday was a huge success and that without the superb fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Mead, this event would probably not have gone ahead.

“It was a fantastic day. We had such great feedback and a lot of people said that this was their favourite one of these we have ever done,” she said.

“I think my favourite bit was when kids got to learn about how to use a digger and actually dug holes in the school field. But don’t worry, we did fill them in afterwards.

“There was a great mix of different things to do. From robots to having a hovercraft in, or understanding about the human body or having a science rapper in too.

“We had children from all the schools from the Mead Trust, including The Mead, Castle Mead and the River Mead, but others also came from all over to enjoy the day.”

There was also an egg race, which proved to be very popular.

“There was just so many different things to do and thankfully the weather was good to us, which was great,” she said.

“For the last 16 years, we have put on a community day every year, be it on science, PE, or arts, we always host a free community event.

“In previous years we have received a lottery grant but that was not the case this year so we put on a slightly smaller event thanks to the support of Friends of the Mead, as well as people to make donations on the day.

“I want to thank the Friends for their wonderful support and the staff for helping on Saturday as well.”
