A YOUNG Corsham author, who has written ten books in less than two years, has sent a selection of her work to the royal family.

Lauren Abby, 19, of Kings Avenue, recently posted some of her books to HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, for Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.

Lauren said: “I sent them off recently but I haven’t heard back yet, so I don’t know if they are being read.”

Lauren, a former Corsham School and Corsham Regis Primary School pupil, has penned eight of her ten books in the last nine months alone.

She began writing short stories at the age of nine and her career as a budding author has sky-rocketed since 2016.

“I mainly write about my pets and the things I know,” said Lauren, who was also home-schooled for a while after being bullied.

“I just love to write and ideas just pop into my head and then the stories flow from there.”

Lauren’s first book, published in November 2016, was called The Mermaid. The second, published in September 2017, was The Mermaid Seahorse Saga.

Since the start of this year, she’s published virtually a book every month, writing about her pet Labrador/Collie cross 13-year-old Trigger, and the family tortoise Coleen.

When she first started, Lauren used to write stories in a notebook. Now she uses a desktop computer in one corner of the family living room.

The stories have just flowed: Cold Night, published in February, was a short novel about homelessness aimed at teenagers and adults, and was quickly followed by Wicked Wizards in April.

Since then, she’s published Trigger and Coleen (June), Ben and Gracie (July), Trigger and Coleen: Trigger’s story (July/August), Astronaut Adventures (August), and The Adventures of Trigger: Coleen’s story (August).

The tenth one, published earlier this month, was Charles, the King Charles Spaniel.

Each novel is around 8,000 words and runs to 34 pages in length. They are mostly aimed at young children aged six to 12 years.

Her novels have all been published through the USA-based company, Create Space.

They are available online through Barnes & Noble, the USA online book store, and on Amazon, where Lauren has a five-star feedback rating.

She’s even been back to her old primary school, Corsham Regis, to read her stories to younger readers.
