PHIL Brown hopes the Swindon Town supporters respond to the team’s best performance of the season in kind when they host Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Town romped to an impressive 3-0 victory away at Yeovil Town last weekend and are only out of the play-off positions on goal difference nine games into the League Two campaign.

A total of 871 Swindon fans made the trip to a rain-soaked Huish Park and Brown now hopes to see the crowd swell when his side return to the Energy Check County Ground for the visit of the Latics this weekend.

Brown described the relationship between team and supporters as “a partnership” and believes the manner of their victory over a previously in-form Glovers side showed exactly what Town are capable of when they hit top gear.

“Going to Yeovil, having had them just won 6-0 and us been beaten 2-1 by Bury in very disappointing fashion – to go from that to where we were just shows you what we are like if we apply ourselves,” said Brown.

“If we apply ourselves this week, then I am hoping to the same level of performance.

“If we get the same result, great, but if we can get the same level of performance, then I will take that week in, week out and results will eventually take care of themselves.

“I am hoping upon hope that the Swindon Town fans will turn out on Saturday to get behind the team because it is a partnership, it is a two-way street.

“We want to entertain them, we want to give them something to cheer about and hopefully we will on Saturday.”

The mood in the Swindon camp is understandably sky high in the wake of that excellent result at Yeovil, with Town having lost just one of their last seven league fixtures.

Brown says his players have been looking good on the training pitch so far before they get into the nitty gritty of a gameplan to overcome Oldham at the back end of the week.

“We had an 11 versus 11 game amongst our first-team squad members on Tuesday, so we have all had a good fitness hit this week,” said Brown.

“We will plan properly the tactics on Thursday and Friday with a view to winning the game on Saturday.”
