FAMILIES braved the rain on Sunday to take part in the Bradford on Avon Lions Club fun run and 5k events.

More than 80 runners turned out to run the two circuits despite the early morning wet weather.

Race director Phil Courage said they were “delighted” with the response from families and serious runners.

“Last year we had around 200 runners take part and raised over £1,000.

“Obviously, the rain today has put a few people off but we’re delighted that 80 have turned up despite the weather.”

The fun run covered a circuit up to the Bradford on Avon sewage treatment works and back to the cricket pavilion at Culver Close.

The 5k circuit stretched along the valley to Avoncliff and back along the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath into Bradford on Avon.

Funds raised from the annual event will be put towards local charities and Lions Club events and activities.

The 5k winner was Daniel Miles in a time of 17 minutes and 42 seconds.

Second was Joe Milton in 18:57 and Henry Kilpin was third in 20:55.

For the ladies, Zoe Yeomans came in first in 23:44, followed by Sophie Harding in 26:46, with Rosemary Barber third in 27:33.

The over 40s winners were Lorraine Fleming (28:38) and Steve Riley (23:45). The over 50s winners were Alison Button (27:34) and Geoff Veale (27:28). The over 60s winners were Rosemary Barber (27:33) and Phil Harding (22:32).

The boys winners in the fun run were Felix White (U12s/8:49), Aaron King (U10s/10:13) and Theo Crymble (U8s/10:16).

The girls winners were Tabitha Oliver (U12s/9:02), Holly Bagnall (U10s/10:29) and Tess Beatson (U8s/12:06).
