A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested following an assault at the community centre in Melksham.

Police were called to the centre in Bowmans Court at 8.15pm on Wednesday (October 3) following a report that a 15-year-old boy had been smashed over the head with a glass bottle by another youth.

After officers carried out a search of the area, a 16-year-old local boy was arrested on suspicion of assault, actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm and theft from a shop.

He was also charged with assaulting police officers after four were spat at during the arrest.

The teenager was taken to Melksham custody for questioning where he remained Thursday (October 4) morning.

The victim who was hit with a glass bottle sustained a cut to his head and attended Trowbridge Hospital.
