CALNE distance runner Simon Nott is now the proud owner of the Wiltshire county titles at five different distances.

Nott added the half marathon crown on Sunday to the ones he already holds at 5000m, 5 miles and 10k on the road and he is also the reigning Wiltshire cross country champion.

“Obviously I have won the 5000m, 5 miles, 10k and now half marathon titles in 2018 whereas the cross country was last year in December,” said Nott.

“It would be good to win that again this year for a clean sweep but we’ll have to see who else turns up and how it goes on the day. But it would be very rewarding if I could win them all in one year.”

A successful defence of his cross country crown would be the perfect way for Nott, who is a member of Calne Running Club, to end another impressive year.

Victory in Sunday’s race at Salisbury was yet another sign of how much he has improved as Nott dipped under 70 minutes for the first time with a personal best time of 69mins 25secs to move up to fifth in the South West Rankings – and number one in Wiltshire.

“It was only my third ever half marathon and my first since last year so I am very happy with that time,” added Nott.

“I really wanted that sub 70 minutes time so it was a box ticked as far as I was concerned and I felt pretty good during the race and on the second lap felt like I was catching the eventual winner.

“It was pretty quiet out on the course but it was a well organised event.”

Another happy county runner was Avon Valley Runners’ Jackie Rockliffe as she won the county women’s title in addition to claiming overall victory in a personal best time of 83mins 21secs.

“I was really pleased to run a PB again after two years and to win the race, while getting the Wiltshire title was a real bonus,” said Rockliffe.

“It is good to get back to this level after everything went pear-shaped last time when I got injured. Now I am working harder on strength and conditioning to make sure I stay fit and healthy.”

Also from AVR, Damian Spreckley won the over 40s prize and Chris Suter was second veteran over 50.
