MORE than 100 badminton players of all ages and abilities turned out for a charity event held in memory of a popular Warminster paramedic.
They gathered on Saturday at Warminster Sports Centre for an all-day badminton marathon to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Relief as a tribute to Ben Nevers who died of cancer earlier this year.
The event was organised by the Warminster-based Tuesday Badminton Club, a club Mr Nevers had been a member of for around six years.
The fun kicked off at 8.30am and went on to 8pm, with everyone from children to pensioners joining in.
As well as the all-day badminton, there were refreshments and a tombola, with local traders and businesses donating prizes.
Andrew Harding, a member of the Tuesday Badminton Club, said: "It was a fantastic day and a great tribute to Ben.
"He was always very keen for young people to take up badminton, so he would have been delighted with the number of youngsters who turned out on Saturday.
"Although we haven't yet got a final amount, we think as much as £2,000-£3,000 has been raised, which is a great amount."
While the bulk of the money raised is going to Dorothy House and McMillan, proceeds from the refreshments and tombola will be donated to Salisbury Hospice, where Mr Nevers, who was a paramedic in Warminster for 28 years, was cared for.
