A HOLT woman has ‘braved the shave’ to have her hair chopped off for charity.

Stephanie Pepler went under the electric clippers wielded by hairdresser Catherine Townsend.

The head shave was watched by family and friends as it took place at the Trio Barber Shop in The Shires shopping centre.

The 21-year-old from Hawcroft, Holt, decided to brave the shave after being hit by the loss of two people she loved in the past two years.

Her uncle Trevor Mansfield died in July this year from lung cancer, and honorary auntie Sue Corbishley died in July 2017 from liver cancer.

She also lost someone she knew, Charlie Dale-O’Driscoll, 21, to cancer. “He fought so hard, but cancer won,” she said.

Stephanie added: “It was quite an emotional day. I had to hold back the tears while I was having my head shaved.

“I had my head shaved because I am trying to make a point. Once you’ve been hit by cancer due to losing a family member your outlook on life changes.

“People who have chemotherapy treatment for cancer don’t get to decide whether they have hair or not.

“If all I can do is to shave off my hair to raise money for charities like Macmillan then I am prepared to do it.

“I don’t regret it at all, although people are now telling me I look a bit like Sinead O’Connor.”

Stephanie is an administrative assistant with local surveyors All Trades GB Ltd on the White Horse Business Park in Trowbridge.

She has so far raised more than £1,200 from having her head shaved and is still collecting cash from colleagues, family and friends.

Miss Pepler intends to donate the money to the Macmillan cancer charity.
