FIFTY-year-old Nick Jones from Westbury who is living with malignant hypertension, a terminal illness that attacks the heart and internal organs is setting off on his climb of Mount Everest to raise money for a foundation that will help support bereaved children after he has died.

Mr Jones and his team of climbers are setting off for Nepal this afternoon (October 19), and are expecting to return to the UK in mid November following the 22-day trip.

Mr Jones is confident he will reach base camp, but wants to aim higher to reach Island Peak.

He said: “My doctor Rob Lowe at the RUH in Bath has told me, that there is a good chance I won’t come back. He has advised that I don’t go up there and just let the others attempt the climb.

“It is difficult to deal with that news, but I am not going to stop now. I am committed to going for it, without a doubt."

We will be posting regular photos and updates of Mr Jones and his team's progress.
