TROWBRIDGE launched its Poppy Appeal today, ahead of ambitious plans to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War on November 11.

In a brief ceremony in front of the war memorial in the Town Park the chairman of Trowbridge Royal British Legion, Capt Roy Zaman MBE, assisted by town crier Trevor Heeks, presented the Trowbridge Mayor, Councillor Dennis Drewett with the first poppy of Remembrancetide 2018.

The Poppy Appeal officially begins on Saturday October 27and runs until Saturday November 10. Legion members, volunteers and members of the town's cadet corps will be selling poppies at various places around the town, including the Tesco supermarket and in The Shire shopping centre.

A choral concert, directed by Graham Dalby, entitled Greater Love Hath No Man will be held at St James’ Parish Church on the evening of Friday, November 9. Tickets are still available at £15 from www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/536187 or by calling 01225 765573.

On Remembrance Sunday, November 11, at 11am, people will gather in the town park to commemorate, to the minute, exactly 100 years since the Armistice was declared.
