Best of the South West 2018

Exhibition at Town Hall Arts, Trowbridge

Thursday 15 November 2018 – Saturday 5 January 2019

TOWN Hall Arts rounds off an exciting year of exhibitions with Best of the South West 2018, which opens on Thursday 15 November. This show brings together 11 talented artists who have graduated from universities across the region this year.

The exhibition represents the second half of Best of the South West 2018. During the summer, Pound Arts in Corsham held an exhibition of 15 artists from Bath Spa, Arts University Bournemouth, Falmouth School of Art, UWE Bristol and Plymouth University.

Now, Town Hall Arts brings together its own exciting exhibition of emerging artists from these universities.

Katie Ackrill, Visual Arts Coordinator at Town Hall Arts and Pound Arts, said: "Best of the South West offers a fabulous opportunity for us to engage with the talented artists emerging from universities across the region.

"It is outstanding to see the quality and diversity of work being produced, and a useful way for us to begin relationships with artists who have the potential to go on to do amazing things. By offering them an exhibition as part of our visual arts programme, we hope to provide a unique opportunity for them as they emerge from education into a career which can often be difficult to navigate.

"The graduates chosen to show work at Town Hall Arts were selected for the quality and originality of their output, and demonstrate the breadth of artistic practice through painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, video and installation.

"The chosen pieces confront a variety of themes and issues including pollution, nature, dystopia, the body, trauma, FGM, consumerism, nostalgia, spirituality and the sublime."

The selected graduates include Marian Arnott-Weeks, Averil Bartlett, Jacqueline Bond, Sophia Checkley, David Dukes, Jack Hughes, Bree Jammett, Danielle Jenkins, Georgina Oxnard, Georgie Ryan and Magdy Rozeik.

The exhibition will launch on Thursday, November 15 at 6pm, and will run until Saturday January 5 2018.
