FIREFIGHTERS from Trowbridge had to abandon plans to lay a wreath at the Trowbridge Remembrance Day ceremony, when they were called out to tackle a blazing car.

The crew from Trowbridge Station were already in full dress uniforms for the service when they had to race off to Bradford on Avon, where a car and a van had collided on the edge of town, where the main road meets Leigh Road.

Watch manager Neil Hiscock said: "We were all dressed to attend the Trowbridge Remembrance Service in the town’s park when were tasked to attend the road traffic collision on the junction between the A363 and B3105.

"On arrival the Mercedes AMG was ablaze, which the crew extinguished using two breathing apparatus and two hose reels We used a vehicle-mounted winch to clear road.

"Thankfully no-one was trapped, and the two injured dealt with by ambulance service.”
