A SAFE containing cash and gold jewellery was stolen during a burglary at a house in Melksham yesterday (Mon, Nov 26).

Police are appealing for information after a house in Hawthorn Road, Melksham, was targeted between 9.20am and 3.20pm.

The thieves smashed a rear window to gain entry and stole a safe containing cash and gold jewellery with an unknown value.

It is believed that a black Volkswagen Golf which does not belong to the victim had been seen parked near the address at some point during the morning.

PC James Dixon said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident.

"Burglaries can be really upsetting and distressing for victims who should be able to feel safe in their own homes.

“I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the Hawthorn Road area yesterday, as well as any suspicious vehicles.

“Crime scene investigators attended the scene and house-to-house enquiries have been carried out and our investigation remains ongoing.
