TROWBRIDGE Mayor, Cllr Dennis Drewett, has welcomed a group of Spanish exchange students to the town.

The 16 students from the Florida Blanca School in Murcia are visiting as part of an exchange programme at the John of Gaunt School.

The students, aged 14 and 15, will stay with John of Gaunt pupils during their week-long visit which ends on Saturday.

Vanessa Lopez, the Spanish teacher at John of Gaunt, arranged the exchange, which will include a cream tea in Bradford on Avon, a trip to the Roman Baths in Bath, and a visit to Stonehenge and Salisbury.

Cllr Drewett said: “We can’t offer them nice beaches and lovely hot sunshine but hopefully they will take advantage of our culture and heritage while they are here.”

Paul Skipp, the John of Gaunt headteacher, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our young people to be able to form new relationships and develop their language skills.”
