SCORES of presents donated to the Salvation Army in Trowbridge are to be distributed to local families in need.

Soldiers from the Warminster Garrison became the latest to drop off gifts at the organisation’s branch headquarters in Castle Street.

Salvation Army Major Kelvin Lang said they have received scores of pre-loved presents collected by residents, church groups and local businesses.

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people. The public has been so kind at this time of year.”

The gifts will be given to around 150 families identified by Wiltshire Social Services as being in need.

Major Lang said their volunteers would match up the gifts to the age and gender of the children identified by social services staff.

“We’ve received puzzles, games, toys and many other presents for girls and boys. We’ll be hoping to get them all out by December 17.”
