MELKSHAM Mayor, Councillor Adrienne Westbrook, has officially opened Warrens Bakery’s first store in Wiltshire.

The new shop at 16 High Street, Melksham, has created new five new jobs and has already served hundreds of customers eager to try the firm’s traditional pies and Cornish pasties.

Franchisee Julie Kerby said: “We are thrilled and proud to have opened our first Warrens Bakery in Melksham and thank all those who have supported us.

“Since opening, we’ve received a great response from the local community and very much look forward to welcoming and providing Cornish delights to more new customers here in Melksham and also other future stores in Wiltshire.”

As the oldest Cornish pasty maker in the world and a proud guardian of the Cornish pasty, it’s no surprise Warrens Bakery’s medium steak pasty has been the most popular so far, with an amazing 1,300 of the Cornish specialities sold in just three days.

The new Melksham bakery not only boasts Warrens Bakery’s famous range of pasties, which are perfect for those on-the-go, but also tasty breakfast products, a delicious range of breads, freshly made sandwiches and hot and cold drinks.

The store has a seating area providing shoppers with somewhere to take a break, sit down and relax and it also offers a takeaway service.

Jackie Dillon, head of franchise operations at Warrens Bakery, added: “We were overwhelmed with the level of excitement seen in Melksham with our new customers enjoying tucking into freshly-baked pasties and traditional bakery goods.

“Warrens Bakery now has over 70 stores throughout England and Wales and we’ll be opening another bakery in the new year in Trowbridge.”

Established in 1860, Warrens Bakery is the oldest bakery in Cornwall.

With more than 150 years of baking experience, it has received a number of accolades, including awards at the British Pie Awards and World Pasty Championships for its Vegan Thai Pasty.

In September its hard work and dedication saw it named the winner of the highly sought-after Craft Bakery Business Award at the Baking Industry Awards.
