THE groundworks have been laid for a new play surface for a Trowbridge pre-school day nursery.

Steps Ahead in Bradley Road is preparing to lay a new all-weather surface for its 130-plus children.

The new surface is being laid with help from Scottish & Southern Energy in the nursery’s middle play ground.

Duty manager Latoyah Chivers, 28, said the local community had rallied round to help the nursery improve its facilities.

“Scottish & Southern has donated its help free of charge.

“We’re putting in a new AstroTurf surface so the children can play in all weathers.

“We’re also going to remove the old climbing frame which was unsafe, and replace it with moveable play equipment.

“This will enable us to play football or use it for play activities, and the surrounding area will be landscaped.”

Steps Ahead has just celebrated its 18th anniversary. The day nursery caters for 134 children aged three months to five years.
