WILTSHIRE'S Joe Sugg left the best to last in the Strictly Come Dancing final on Saturday.

It wasn't enough as it was Stacey Dooley who won the glitter ball trophy despite lying behind Joe in fourth place.

Joe was gracious in defeat as were the other two finalists Faye Tozer and Ashley Roberts who also congratulated documentary maker Stacey whose vibrant personality helped to garner the public's votes.

The former thatcher and YouTube prankster dyed his hair red for the final after promising flame-haired Dianne he would match her colour if he made the final.

There were tears from Kevin Clifton when he and Stacey Dooley were crowned the winners of the 16th series of the BBC show that pulled in more than 11 million viewers. He had been a runner up four times and his emotions spilled out at the presentation by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman who host the show. And eagle eyed viewers will have spotted him being congratulated by his estranged wife Karen afterwards in what is another twist in the so-called 'Strictly curse.'

Speaking of which Joe and Dianne have been romantically linked by some in the media although the duo insist they are just friends.

Ashley and Faye who had been criticised by some viewers for coming from dance backgrounds both scored maximum points and ended in a dead heat while Joe was just four points behind and four ahead of Stacey.

In the show dance Joe used a trampoline and stacked amps and speakers to create what the judges called a head-banging mash-up that had everything. Even Craig said he liked it as it had the 'quirk of a Charleston' but still gave it a nine.

Despite missing out in the final Joe will continue to dance as he takes part in Strictly Live, the dance show that takes to the road in 2019. He'll be dancing with Dianne Buswell in the show directed by Craig Revel Horwood and is joined by the other finalists along with several of the other 2018 contestants.
