PUPILS at Kingdown School have been collecting for the local Warminster and district Foodbank to help provide food for families in need this Christmas.

This term pupils have been focusing on the value of respect as their theme, and students across all year groups have been exploring what respect means to them, and how they can show respect to others.

As part of this module and respecting our local communities, they have been finding out about the work of the local foodbank and how it helps and supports families in nearby areas.

By talking with the volunteers at the food bank, the school’s tutor groups were able to find out which food items were most needed.

Ahead of the Christmas break, each tutor group put together at least one bag of donations in order to help provide food for families and individuals in need.

Assistant headteacher David Richardson said: “It has been incredible to be reminded of just how caring and generous our school community is.

“To see over 1,600 students and staff rally together to support the local community, including our own, is heart-warming.

“It has also allowed tutor groups across the school to put into action our ideas about what respecting our community might mean.

“The students of Kingdown School have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Warminster and district Foodbank, and the fantastic work they do.”

A spokesman from the Foodbank said: “Redundancy, benefit delay, illness, an unexpected expense can mean going hungry when you are on a low income.

“By providing food we can help to prevent family breakdown, housing loss and crime.”
