WESTBURY station will remain closed until the end of the day as work is delayed further.

The station which has been shut over Christmas due to woks was scheduled to reopen at 4am this morning (Friday) but to commuters dismay it was still closed this morning.

Great Western Railway has now said the station will be closed for the rest of the day.

A spokesman said: "Due to Network Rail engineering work not being finished on time GWR is unable to run any train services through Westbury.

"Network Rail engineers are on site working to re-open the railway as soon as possible, however disruption is expected to last for the rest of the day. A replacement bus service is being provided in the intervening period.

"Buses are in operation instead of trains between Trowbridge and Warminster via Westbury, between Frome and Westbury and between Chippenham and Westbury via Melksham.

"Train services continue to run between Cardiff Central and Bristol Temple Meads terminating at Trowbridge; and between Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central towards Warminster.

"Ticket restrictions have also been lifted allowing those with tickets for travel between Cardiff and Portsmouth for today to travel tomorrow, and those who choose not to travel are entitled to a refund.

"Customers may also travel on Great Western Railway services to Reading and Basingstoke and use Cross Country or South Western Railway services towards Southampton or Portsmouth, and several local bus providers are also accepting rail tickets. Please visit this page for further details."
