Police are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed during a robbery in Trowbridge.

It happened at around 5.25pm yesterday (Monday January 7) when the victim was walking through the alleyway adjoining Trowbridge Railway Station car park and Innox Road.

He was approached by three people who threatened him and stole a number of items, including his backpack, bike, mobile phone, wallet, necklace and smart watch.

During the confrontation the victim suffered a small stab wound to his thigh. He was taken to the Royal United Hospital by ambulance and discharged last night.

The three male suspects ran off in the direction of Innox Road. Two were white and the other was mixed race.

They were all around 16 years old and were wearing dark coats. The missing bike is described as a white Carrera mountain bike.

Det Sgt Neil Le'Maire, from Melksham CID, said: "Any incident which involves violence of this kind will understandably be concerning for the local community. However I want to reassure you that these types of incidents are rare and we will be putting on increased patrols in the town as a precautionary measure.

"This was an unprovoked attack on a teenage boy and it is lucky that he was not more seriously injured.

"I want to reassure people that we are taking this incident seriously and we have already started carrying out swift enquiries to try to find those responsible.

"The railway station car park and the surrounding area would have been busy at that time of the evening and people may have seen something or captured something on their car dash cam which they did not realise was significant at the time.

"I would urge anyone who has information which could assist with our investigation to come forward and speak to police."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information in relation to the youths involved, should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54190002093. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
