GENEROUS Christmas shoppers and charity volunteers in Trowbridge have raised a record £8,700 for the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group.

The charity has thanked everyone who visited its Wishing Tree and bric-a-brac shop in Castle Place shopping centre and helped them raise the record amount.

Local BCUSG branch chairman Tino Polledri said: “We were hopeful the tree and shop would exceed the 2017 total of £5,410, but to smash the previous figure by over £3,000 was totally unexpected.

“The amount raised was purely from donations made during the four weeks that the tree was in place, and is in addition to any other fundraising activities and legacy donations.

“We would also like to thank local company Premier Prints which ran a £250 prize draw for people placing messages on the tree. More than 500 butterflies were pinned to the tree and the lucky winner was Helen Stevens, whose name was picked at random.”
